Sithandazile Kuzviwanza is a 17 year old aspiring lawyer
and in her last year of secondary studies. Sithandazile, known by her
friends and family as Sta, was born in Zimbabwe and immigrated with her
family when she was 8 years old in hopes of realizing the Canadian
dream. Sta will be pursuing post-secondary studies in the Social
Sciences next year and hopes to begin her law studies in 2015 in order
to facilitate her dream of becoming an advocate for justice in all its
forms.
Sta’s dreams are equally matched by her accomplishments; she has a
well-developed understanding of what it takes to excel in both her work
at school and in the community. Earlier this year, Sta earned
distinction as a lawyer in her first mock-trial in the Ontario Judge’s
Cup and she has consistently made the honour roll each year in high
school. As a student, Sta’s accolades include being a class
Valedictorian, being elected President of her school board’s
Presidents’ Council, and currently being the Vice President of St.
Robert Catholic High School’s Student Council. Sta will be graduating
from her school’s fifth class of the rigorous International
Baccalaureate Programme and as a provincial award-winning debater and
mock United Nations leader. Her tenacious yet compassionate
spirit is contagious!
Josef Osroff is
a 24 year old young man who is optimistic about his career in Canadian
Law Enforcement. He is one of four siblings; two sisters and one
brother. He resides in Toronto, where he has spent most of his life.
Born in Palestine, his parents immigrated to Canada due to tumultuous
unrest in his homeland.
Josef is currently studying law enforcement and criminology and is very
passionate about suppressing local crime in the municipal Toronto area,
specifically in the downtown core. In relation to this, he has been
employed in various security positions; uniform and undercover,
particularly in the Greater Toronto Area. He also believes in
supporting the rehabilitation of those who have strayed from the path
of responsible citizenship. Josef has been a committed A.B.L.E. member
for almost four years under the mentorship of Ms. Paulette Joseph
(secretary of A.B.L.E.). Josef hopes to achieve his goal by pursuing a
career in Law enforcement. In the past six years, he has committed
himself in providing mentorship programmes at the Mosque and is also a
volunteer Probation and Parole Officer at the Scarborough office.
Josef sees himself as a future husband and father, somewhere in Canada with a career in law enforcement.

Emily Dixon
is a 17 year old senior student at Pickering High School. She is very
involved at the school, as she is a member of the: Femtones (an
Acapella choir), Concert Choir, Senior Concert Band, and Love146 task
force (a group dedicated to the abolishment of child sex slavery).
Throughout her high school career, she has consistently been on the
honour roll, and has received a certificate of academic giftedness.
Emily is excited about attending The University of Toronto (St. George
Campus) in the fall to study criminology.
For the past two summers, Emily has worked as a camp counsellor at her
church. This job has allowed her to act as a role model for children of
the community. She makes a musical contribution to the church by
playing the piano alongside the main pianist during Sunday services. In
the future, Emily hopes to work with children and youth that are “at
risk”. To gain experience in this field she plans to volunteer at Urban
Promise, an organization that strives to reach children, raise leaders,
and restore the community in the name of Jesus Christ.
Jahmar Speid is a 21 year old student that was raised in the
Keele and Eglinton area in Toronto. He grew up in a crime-plagued
area and faced many challenges growing up in this community. He comes
from a single parent household, where his mother had the responsibility
of raising three children on a minimal budget of social assistance.
Jahmar works 24 hour shifts every weekend as an Emergency Department
security officer at Mount Sinai Hospital. This experience has taught
him how to maintain a positive attitude in a stressful environment.
Jahmar is currently a member of the Canadian Forces. He works for 32
Military Police Platoon. He is enrolled in the Justice Studies program
at the University of Guelph-Humber and has completed his second year of
the program. Jahmar hopes that his university degree and military
experience will give him the necessary skills to be an effective police
officer. In his spare time, Jahmar coaches and plays rugby and
volunteers as a probation officer at North Etobicoke Probation and
Parole Office.
Edson Jackson
is a 23 year old student who is currently finishing his first year of
studies at Centennial College in the Police Foundations program. Edson
is the youngest of four children and both his parents came from the
island of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Edson is currently serving
with Peel Regional Police as an Auxiliary Officer. His duties with the
Auxiliary unit include patrol escorts, assisting with the RIDE program,
special events and a number of administrative duties among the
divisions. Edson’s auxiliary service has shown him how rewarding a
career in law enforcement can be. Edson has been employed in the
security industry for almost six years now and is currently employed as
part of the CN Tower security team. Edson has future aspirations of
applying his education, work and volunteer experiences to a successful
career as a police constable with Peel Regional Police Services.
